Instagram Newest Updates and Algorithm Changes

Posted by GoAskLee

I just finished taking another amazing Clubhouse class with Instagram and Clubhouse influencer Brittany Michalchuk where I gained a lot of new insights and information on Instagram Newest Updates and Algorithm Changes happening in October 2021! Here is a list of all the Golden Nuggets I took from this class!

Follow Creator’s Account

It is recommended to follow Instagram’s creator’s account https://www.instagram.com/creators/

Consistency is Key

Yes, the Instagram algorithm is ALWAYS changing and Instagram is always making updates, but the key is to stay consistent. Post consistently, keep your engagement high by interacting with your followers with responses to comments and get into the DMs!

Use Hashtags

3-5 Hashtags is the new prime sweet spot, however, you can still use up to 30.

Keep a google doc with your most used hashtags, and keep it updated, as hashtag popularity changes constantly. Do your research and search hashtags in your Niche.

Keep your hashtags related to what you are posting, don’t just use a hashtag because it’s popular. Find hashtags that are popular and relatable to your post.

To determine which hashtags are producing engagement, view the insights on your posts and look at the hashtags section. Under “Discovery” Divide the “From Hashtags” by “Impressions” to get a percentage of how many people engaged with your posts from hashtags.

Use Swipe Features

The swipe up feature has been added back in, but only if you boost your story as an Ad, so depending on what your link is, it might be beneficial to pay the $1 to boost it, otherwise, you can continue to use the link sticker in your story posts, but influencers are learning that they click-through has been down with using the sticker.

Instagram Live and Live Rooms

You can now do an Instagram Live with up to 3 other people which will turn your Live into a “Live Room”, AND you can remove and add your guests throughout the live to offer more people to join as a speaker.

It’s beneficial to have guests in your Lives because the exposure then expands to their followers as well as your own.

Always do a CTA in your Lives to follow you and all the speakers in your Live.

Searchable Emojis and Keywords

Emojis and keywords are now searchable, so use both keywords AND emojis in your Bios and captions.

Tags and Bios

Tag the people you are involved with in your CH and IG bios because you then become searchable when their profile comes up.

Include events you are hosting or involved in on your CH bio…

Your main goal with your bio is to get them into your DMs, actively engaging in your content, and eventually turning them into clients!

Give a Call to Action

  • Always give CTAs in your post captions! “Double-tap if you agree”, “Comment below with (whatever your post is about) “.
  • Put your handle in your reels or posts with a CTA to “Follow me for more”, or “If you love this, give me a follow”.

Convert Followers to Clients

  • Connect with your followers and build rapport before you try to sell them anything.
  • Send voice messages instead of long messages to create a genuine connection
  • DM and connect with followers you believe could turn into clients, but remember step 1 above…connect and build rapport first!

Follow This 5-Step Outline to Create Engaging IG Posts

  • “Have you ever been challenged with (insert topic)”
  • Tell your story
    • be authentic
    • Connect
    • Show your struggle..be honest and open
  • Before & After
    • Entice them with a transformation
